This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure in honor of my mother. My mother was diagnosed with an Invasive Mammary Carcinoma five days before Christmas 2017. This is a low grade, slow growing cancerous tumor that does not respond to chemotherapy. According to the doctor's at Vanderbilt she's had this cancer for years but because it was in a denser area of her breast it wasn't picked up on during her yearly mammograms. We are waiting on the MRI results to determine what Stage she is in, but it is most like either Stage 2 or Stage 3.
Cancer is scary, and the thought of losing my mother to this disease is easily the scariest thing I've ever experienced. But knowing that I can make an impact and help support the fight against breast cancer makes it a little easier. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to my run in honor of my mother, the greatest woman I have ever known.
